By taking a holistic approach,\u00a0<strong>SITES promotes sustainable land development<\/strong>\u00a0that has positive impacts on both the environment and human health.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>Areas of application<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>The SITES protocol, currently available in version v2, can be applied to projects located in areas with or without buildings, including:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Open Spaces: local, state, and national parks; botanical gardens; arboretums<\/li>\n<li>Urban Spaces: streets and plazas<\/li>\n<li>Commercial Areas: retail and office areas; corporate campuses<\/li>\n<li>Residential Areas: neighborhoods or individual courtyards<\/li>\n<li>Educational\/Institutional Areas: public and private campuses; museums; hospitals<\/li>\n<li>Infrastructure<\/li>\n<li>Government Areas<\/li>\n<li>Military Areas<\/li>\n<li>Industrial Areas<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The ASLA and GBCI team are already working to develop the protocol in version v3.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>SITES Sections<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>The SITES v2 evaluation system consists of <strong>18 mandatory requirements<\/strong> and <strong>48 credits<\/strong> that total 200 points to measure the sustainability of the project. Prerequisites and credits are organized into <strong>10 sections<\/strong>:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Site Context<\/li>\n<li>Pre-Design Assessment + Planning<\/li>\n<li>Site Design &#8211; Water<\/li>\n<li>Site Design &#8211; Soil + Vegetation<\/li>\n<li>Site Design &#8211; Materials Selection<\/li>\n<li>Site Design &#8211; Human Health + Well-Being<\/li>\n<li>Construction<\/li>\n<li>Operations + Maintenance<\/li>\n<li>Education + Performance Monitoring<\/li>\n<li>Innovation or Exemplary Performance<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<h3><strong>Livelli di certificazione SITES<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>The SITES system is based on 4 levels of certification based on the score obtained with the credits pursued (considering all the Prerequisites fulfilled):<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Certified<\/strong> | between 70 and 84 points<\/li>\n<li><strong>Silver<\/strong> | between 85 and 99 points<\/li>\n<li><strong>Gold<\/strong> | between 100 and 134 points<\/li>\n<li><strong>Platinum<\/strong> | 135 points and up<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The maximum score achievable is 200 points, while the minimum score to obtain the certification is 70 points.<\/p>\n<h3>The synergies between SITES and LEED<\/h3>\n<p>The SITES and LEED rating systems are complementary and can be used independently or in concert.
