The connection between humans and nature is undeniable, and we now find ourselves at a critical moment. The built environment is a primary contributor to biodiversity loss, and the Real Estate industry has a unique opportunity to protect, promote and restore nature.<\/p>\n

Biodiversity is one of Earth\u2019s most valuable assets, helping us adapt to the impacts of Climate Change and reducing financial risks. By incorporating biodiversity metrics into Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) reporting, organisations can demonstrate leadership in sustainable development and enhance their competitive edge to protecting ecosystems. <\/strong><\/p>\n

Last year, the USGBC participated for the first time as an accredited observer at the 16th Conference of the Parties to the Convention on Biological Diversity (COP16) as an accredited observer. Under the theme “Peace with Nature”, the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework<\/a> was further developed for global implementation.<\/p>\n

First adopted at COP15, the \u201cBiodiversity Plan\u201d is a call to action for nature with 23 targets for 2030 and 4 goals for 2050. The LEED v5 BD+C <\/strong>rating system, for example, is more committed than ever: 82% of the prerequisites\/credits help meet 12 out of the 23 global biodiversity targets outlined in the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework<\/strong>.<\/p>\n
