LEED v5 is here to revolutionise sustainability in our built environment!
April 30, 2025 MDS

The U.S. Green Building Council launched the newest version of LEED on 28 April, raising the bar for a more resilient future by focusing on key impact areas:

  • Decarbonisation: delivering ultra-low-carbon buildings by targeting emissions reductions across all aspects of the building lifecycle: embodied carbon, operations, refrigerants and transportation.
  • Quality of life: integrating human-centred strategies that improve health & well-being, resilience, and equity & inclusion for building occupants and their communities.
  • Ecological conservation and restoration: promoting biodiversity by ensuring that our built environment exists in harmony with nature and by limiting the degradation of ecosystems.

“LEED v5 provides actionable guidance and tools to building industry professionals working around the globe to tackle pressing challenges to our health, climate and communities.” – Peter Templeton, President & CEO at USGBC

The best buildings use LEED and it is a wise investment

For more than two decades, the flagship LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) green building program has played a critical role in transforming the Real Estate sector achieving a higher average market sale price or rental rate – thus attracting more favourable and stable financing options.

As our world changes, so must our buildings! That’s why the LEED program is being updated to provide more opportunities to evolve rating system requirements in response to a rapidly changing market. The new version redefines what it means to be a high-performance building:

  • New Project Priorities credit category offering greater flexibility to address unique project contexts, culture, location, areas of innovation and individual performance objectives.
  • New Assessments as prerequisites focused on climate resilience and human impact.
  • New Requirements for Platinum certificationhave been created addressing energy efficiency, carbon emissions and renewable energy use.
