The third LEED European Summit was held in Berlin on 26 and 27 May by USGBC® (United States Green Building Council Certification Inc.), GBCI (Green Business Certification Inc.) and GGBA (German Green Building Association).

The event summoned to the German capital more than 130 professionals from over 17 European countries, including Macro Design Studio professionals. The summit was not only an interesting moment for training and updating the knowledge but also an opportunity for networking among professionals linked by a common goal: to make the environment in which we live more sustainable.

Mahesh Ramanujam, USGBC and GBCI CEO, during his speech announced the birth of GBCI Europe, the institution issuing sustainability certifications such as LEED, WELL, SITES, PEER … and certifying the  credentials of professionals passing the exam (LEED AP, WELL AP, SITES AP). The headquarters of GBCI Europe, designed to meet the needs of the European market, will be based in Munich (Germany) and will be directed by Kay Killman, former chairman and founder of GGBA.

During the summit, the other interventions were mainly focused on the presentation of ARC platform, the platform that allows to register and create a database of the existing buildings’ actual performance data; the WELL protocol that promotes innovative strategies supported by scientific researches to promote health, happiness, awareness and productivity in buildings and communities; lastly, the system for assessing the environmental, social and governance components of asset, real estate and infrastructure proposed by GRESB.

The next European event will be GREENBUILD Europe 2018, in Berlin.
