WELL™ is the new international protocol to verify and certify the level of health and well-being of people who stay and live in buildings, and Macro Design Studio enriches its professional skills by obtaining the WELL AP credential.
The WELL Building StandardTM, the result of years of research in which various professionals from different working fields took part of, shifts the spotlight on human well-being. Neither environmental sustainability, landscape protection, nor use of renewable resources for energy production are aspects to forget, but they should be completed by a holistic approach, which recognizes people as the main engine of any type of activity.
In these three years, since the launch of WELL on the market, there has been an explosion of interest for this new approach that leads to a new idea of building by shifting the focus from the container, the building, to the content, the occupants’ well-being.
Data, researches, as well as the on-site tests and verifications confirm that the WELL-certified buildings make a greater than expected contribution to improving the occupants’ health.
This is the starting point to develop the next step, WELL v2, that was presented internationally by the International WELL Building Institute (IWBI) last month in New York, with the aim of improving and optimizing the defined approach.
The improvement aspects can be summarized in 4 main areas: Concepts (air, water, nourishment, light, movement, thermal comfort, sound, material, mind, community), Rules, Registration, Features.
This protocol, which is certainly new and interesting for the European market, improves both the well-being of the occupants of a building and the productivity. In other words, it is a summary of all the principles of the so-called “organizational well-being” that all companies should reach.
