What is JUST

Just marks the beginning of a new era of corporate transparency. ILFI invites organizations everywhere to evaluate themselves through this social justice and equity lens and become a Just organization. With support from participating organizations, Just will help create a better, more socially just and equitable world. Help your organization optimize policies that improve social equity and enhance employee engagement.

How JUST works

JUST is a transparency platform that allows organizations to disclose their operations, including how they treat their employees and where they make financial and community investments.

It requires reporting on a range of organization- and employee-related indicators. Each indicator outlines measurable accountabilities in order for the organization to be recognized at four levels of performance, which are summarized elegantly on the label. Organizations can use the label on their website or marketing to demonstrate their commitments to these issues. ILFI also transparently posts the detailed information in our publicly viewable database.

The JUST Label is outlined by twenty-two specific social equity indicators that are grouped within six general categories:

  • diversity + inclusion
  • equity
  • employee health
  • employee benefit
  • stewardship
  • purchasing/supply chain.

These categories and indicators provide a common framework and language for organizational comparison and benchmarking. An organization must provide information on at least 16 of the 22 specific indicators in the six categories.

  • Just provides a compliance pathway and credit in green building certification frameworks such as Living Building Challenge, LEED v.4 and WELL.
  • Just complements existing sustainability and corporate social responsibility programs such as B Corp and Global Reporting Initiative (GRI).
  • Just can help enhance existing community stewardship practices and build a stronger brand.

JUST Sumbission Instructions

  1. Once an employee of the organization has joined as a Premium Member, the organization can upload to the JUST Program all of the required information for each category and each indicator. The required information is referenced in the JUST User Manual. Information must be complete in order to receive a label.
  2. The Institute will permit organizations to opt out of a maximum of six indicators but only one indicator per category.
  3. All information must be given in a non-personal format without directly identifying individuals and sensitive information and thereby respecting privacy and confidentiality.
  4. The Institute will confirm if the submitted information merits a JUST Label and at what scores and will inform the organization accordingly. The organization will then have an opportunity to provide additional or clarifying information if they feel that the scores presented are not indicative of true performance. Once the organization is satisfied with the information on the final draft label, they will notify the Institute that they would like to publish their JUST Label on the publicly accessible JUST organization database.
  5. The Just label must be renewed 2 years after the publication date.
