Macro Design Studio strives to advance the culture of sustainability from multiple perspectives, including professional consulting, information, training and research.
As part of this mission, Paola Moschini from Macro Design Studio has recently co-authored with Monica Lavagna, Alessandra Bessi e Andrea Meneghelli, a journal article exploring the critical environmental issues that need to be addressed by detail design in construction projects. This paper has been selected to be published by the scientific journal TECHNE.

The ever-increasing attention to environmental dimension is prompted by the desire to achieve the environmental certification of the building (e.g. LEED) or to satisfy the Minimum Environmental Criteria (CAM) in the Green Public Procurement (GPP). For some years now the demand for buildings with sustainability certifications issued by third parties, such as LEED, BREEAM, WELL and Living Building Challenge, is steering the construction market (Fig. 1), mostly the tertiary sector. In this context, in fact, clients require designers to build a LEED-Gold certified building, as a basic requirement in order to have a property that is rented or sold better, with an increase in the value up to 11% (Rebuild, 2018), and in less time, as a guarantee of reduction of operating costs (up to 14%) and better quality of life for its occupants (McGraw-Hill Construction, 2008).
