With a score of 88 points, the new “Antonio Brancati” secondary school in Pesaro has obtained the certification LEED v4 BD+C: School Platinum Level, being among the first in Europe to have achieved this outcome.

This result stems from a policy of the City of Pesaro aiming at a building sector that is efficient, but also responsible, which has already received on 23 September the award Leadership in Green Building in the public sector “Mario Zoccatelli” by the Green Building Council Italia, declaring the city of Pesaro among the Italian excellences in the sustainable construction.

“These awards are the result of the administration’s commitment to gain more and more credibility and project into a European landscape in order to take advantage of new opportunities for national and European funding linked to energy policies and environmental sustainability” – explains Deputy Mayor Daniele Vimini.

The new middle school not only excels in energy-environmental efficiency, due to a building envelope designed to avoid dispersion but also to prevent overheating thanks to the ventilated wall and solar shielding, but great attention has been given to the comfort of students, teachers and everyone can use the building.

The call included the study of thermo-hygrometric, acoustic and lighting parameters, giving great attention to the internal well-being in order to obtain a healthy, welcoming environment such as to have the best conditions for studying. The LEED certification challenge launched by arch. Finamore – RUP, was welcomed with enthusiasm by Conscoop, specifically Formula Servizi, Hydrothermal Coop and Siem Impianti, who commissioned the engineer Giorgia Lorenzi as LEED AP and ATI Project to analyse the construction design and adapt it in order to make it certified by aiming at the highest possible level. Once the contract was awarded the whole construction team and the municipality actively collaborated to obtain the long-awaited certification.

“The new Antonio Brancati first grade secondary school in Pesaro is an example of excellent green building, the result of teamwork and the determination of the various actors involved who have turned a challenge into a success,” explains Giorgia Lorenzi from Macro Design Studio.

As part of a sustainable strategy of the City of Pesaro thanks to LEED energy-environmental certification, all these values have been recognized at a very high level – Platinum corresponding to 88 points out of 110 max- to guarantee the protection of the environment and comfort, health and well-being of all citizens making this school the first building in Europe as ambassador of an alliance that has seen the collaboration between public authorities, businesses, professionals and citizens united for a more sustainable planet.
