LEED v4 update: from March 2024 more stringent performance requirements
January 22, 2024 MDS

Starting from March 1, 2024, all new LEED registered projects will be subject to the new requirements that raise the thresholds related to energy performance and emissions reduction, introducing a new, more restrictive greenhouse gas (GHG) assessment metric for the category Energy and Atmosphere.

The update concerns all projects under LEED v4 ID+C, LEED v4 BD+C, including the rating system for residential buildings LEED v4 BD+C Homes and Mulifamily LowriseLEED v4 BD+C Mulifamily Midrise, specifically the EAp Minimum Energy Performance prerequisite, the EAc Optimize Energy Performance credit and the EAc Annual Energy Use credit.

This update allows energy efficiency to be measured using both energy costs and primary energy consumption, thus removing some obstacles to electrification. Furthermore, there is the possibility of new prescriptive, performance and simplified paths that guarantee continued accessibility to LEED v4 certification on a large scale.

Those who wish to remain with the current version have until the end of February to register their project on the LEED Online portal.
